“Yeah, I am. First by hitting up your refrigerator and pantry. Can I have something to eat please?”

“Don’t be coming over here only to inhale all of me and my baby food hoe!”

“I’m sorry. I’m hungry!!”

“Whatever, that’s why you need to leave that mess alone. Oh yeah girl let me tell you what happened to me last night.”

“What? Is it juicy?”

“Ugh, pretty much.”

“Well if it is don’t tell me yet. Let me get my food and sit down first. Wait, what all can I have?”

“I don’t care, fat ass. I just bought groceries earlier in the week so there is plenty of junk for you.”

“Ooh, thank you! I love you!”

“Aww shut up whore; you don’t love me, you just love my food.”

“No I don’t. I’m warming me up a hot pocket, when it’s done I want you to tell me what you talking bout.”

Azylae walked back into the living room with an armful of goodies. She is the only person besides family who can come to October’s house and eat whatever she wants. Even with family, there’s a limit. But Azylae doesn’t even have to ask, even though she does every time. She placed her snacks and her drink on the couch and went into the kitchen to retrieve her hot pocket. She held up her finger before walking off as if to say, ‘hold on’. After retrieving the hot pocket, she sat down and placed the plate down to cool off a bit and opened up a bag of Hot Cheetos to eat first.

“Okay, now what is it? I’m all ears.”

“Well, when I was at work I was thinking that I wanted to pay Rick a visit last night.”

“Oh, you wanted you some dick, huh?" She laughed her hearty laugh.

“No. I needed me some and unfortunately, I still do.”

“What you mean, you need some mo’?”

“No. I mean I didn’t get any at all.”

“Why, what happened?”

“That’s what I’m about to tell you.”

October proceeded to unload all of what went down last night with Rick. After she was done, Azylae spoke.

“Oh my, so what you gone do? Are you mad at him?”

“Hell yes, but at the same time no. You know?”

“Yeah.”

“At first I was so shocked, and then I was pissed. Honestly, not because he was sleeping with someone else, but because I was horny as hell and it was supposed to be my night, you know?”

Azylae chuckled and shook her head in agreement, all the while still stuffing her face.

“Then I was mad at him for lying to me and making me waste my time and gas to go all the way over there in the first place. He could have just told me that he was busy and was gone be all night or that tonight just wasn’t a good night. You know, I don’t care if he messes with other girls; I already knew that before I started talking to him. I’m not looking for a relationship with him, I just want the sex. But I also don’t want to witness him being with somebody else when I feel like the attention at that moment belongs to me.”

“You didn’t actually see them together, huh?”

“Yeah, I saw her going to meet him and I’m not stupid. I know what went on even though I didn’t actually see them in bed together.”

“So have you talked to him?”

“No, and I think I’m gonna actually stop talking to him.”

“Why? I thought you didn’t care.”

“I didn’t at first, but on the ride home I was thinking how sometimes when I’m chilling with him, his phone be going off and he’ll ignore it, and sometimes he will answer it when I can tell it’s one of his boys. What if that be other females calling? Well, no that’s not what I mean. I still wouldn’t care if other females called on my time just as long as he don’t answer, but last night he talked to me and responded to my text up until she came and then he didn’t answer my phone calls or text. Then, not even fifteen minutes into my ride home, he texted me apologizing and asking me to come back. If I would’ve been stupid enough to go back because I hadn’t seen her meeting him, he would have slept with me right after sleeping with her.”

“You shole right. That is crazy.”

“Condom or no condom, it is disgusting to sleep with more than one person in one night. And I can’t trust him to be smart no more. I ain’t never had a disease and I don’t want one. I know if I keep messing with him my chances of catching one will be greater. I just left the doctor and got checked for everything so I know I’m good. I can keep up with myself, but I don’t know about him and his other partners. As far as I know he could be sleeping with me and twelve other girls all in the same night.”

“That is true.”

“That is scary. I can’t handle dealing with that. It’s a must to leave this nigga alone. I mean the dick good, but it ain’t that good. AIDS is something serious and that’s all I can think of when I think of that. I wish he would slow down too for his own benefit.”

“So you done with him for good?”

“Yeah, I guess so. Well, I am sexually, but I am not mad at him so I will still talk to him as a friend. I mean, we were already only friends; we were just friends with benefits. That’s why I like the fact that I went into this friendship knowing that I didn’t want to be with him or build a relationship with him. He was so sexy; I just had to have him just for the sex. In the future, I just can’t be left alone with him for too long!” She giggled.

“Aww man, you can’t be slipping now. That is serious, you really got me thinking about that now and it all do make sense. You shouldn’t want to put yourself at risk cause you never know who all he mess with.”

“I know. I’ll just have to find me a new victim. I just don’t want to wait while I’m making him wait. I done got used to getting some on the regular and I made Rick wait for eight months before I gave him some, and you know my usual ‘make em wait time’ is three months. If I meet somebody new, I’m not gonna wanna wait the whole three months going cold turkey. Dang, why Eric had to get married? He wasn’t as good as Rick, but he could still put it down at times and he was more reliable.

“Hello?”

“October what are you doing?” Azylae whispered into the phone on the other end.

“Watching TV. What’s going on, and why are you whispering?”

“That hoe just called Kent cell phone. He was in the shower so I answered; I had a feeling it was her.”

“Are you serious?! So what happened, you got her number now right?”

“Yeah I can’t tell you everything right now, but I need a favor. Can you come get me like right now? We need to take a trip. Wait, is Que still at his grandma house?”

“Yeah, he still there. I’ll be there in ten.”

“Okay, bye. I’ll be outside.”

October tries so hard to be a better person and mother. She tries to avoid conflicts and fights, but as soon as someone upsets her, one of her close friends, or family members, she forgets everything. She got up off the couch and turned the TV off. She had been dressed in her pajamas all day so she ran to her room to slip on some jeans, a bra, and some tennis shoes. After that she ran into her bathroom to grab a scrunchie out of the drawer and slid it on her wrist just in case she would have to pull her hair back into a ponytail. Running out of the house, she grabbed her phone and her keys, locked up and ran to her car. She had a feeling that things were about to get ugly. Apparently, Azylae must have got into it with the girl and she told her where she was or they were about to ride around and find out on their own.

October pulled up and saw Azylae outside arguing with Kent. She could tell that he was trying to talk her out of something, but Azylae’s actions were showing that she was not having it.

She ran and got inside the car and said, “Drive.”

October pulled off leaving Kent standing in front of their home on the curb looking upset. Azylae is not the type to just get into it with anybody ever so October knew that if she was wanting to go meet this girl then this was something serious and October was going to be there to have her back.

“So where we going, where she at?”

Azylae looked over at October and laughed a little bit.

“I don’t really know. I mean she told me her address and I wrote it down with her number, but I’m not sure what side of town this street on. I was so anxious and upset that I can barely read my writing. You know I was trying to be sneaky so I wrote it down so fast. You know where Frost Street is? Or Front, yeah I think that say Front”

October starts to think as she pulled into an empty parking lot and parked.

“No, I think its somewhere in the West End, like off of Major, but I’m not sure. What’s the phone number?”

“651-3629.”

“I’m bout to call her.”

October flipped open her phone and dialed the number that Azylae had just called out to her. It starts to ring and Azylae cuts her off.

“Give it here, let me talk to her. I want her to know I don’t need no one to speak for me.”

October hands the phone over to Azylae as Aubrey answers on her end.

              “Hello?”

Azylae put it on speakerphone so that October could hear her as well; it sounded a bit noisy on Aubrey’s end.

“Yes, is this Aubrey?” Azylae asked with attitude.

“Who is this?” Aubrey asked with even more attitude.

Neither one of the women bothered answering the question that they were asked.

“Yeah this her, I can tell. You need to let me know where you are at this very moment or where you prefer us to meet because it’s obvious that we need to talk. And you were talking all that shit on the phone earlier; I’m ready to see what you really about.”

“Oh, this is the bitch who is trynna play housewife with my man, Kent.”

“Yo man?! Bitch you must be delirious.”

“Yeah that’s right. My man, bitch. You might have him right now, but all of that is about to change. Trust and believe that I will not give up on him just because he a little confused right now. I got four years over ya’ll lil’ thang and I know he only wit you right nah because of dat lil’ bastard child, and I ain’t trynna play stepmama at all, but I will get my man back. I know he still in love with me. He told me so and we will get back together.”

With all that babbling Aubrey went on and on about was starting to piss October off; Azylae was already pissed, but wanted to hear what she had to say. On the contrary, October didn’t and decided to cut her off. She spoke to her as if she was Azylae to speed up the conversation.

“Okay, enough with all that. Just let me know where we can meet up at. I ain’t got time to hear you babble all night. I want to see you in person, so what’s up?”

“Yeah we can meet up. Don’t like to hear the truth huh?" She chuckled. "Go to Market Basket on Major and I’ll be there.” Click.

Ready and determined to meet, they both hung up the phone. Azylae was so full of anger; it looked as if she was capable of killing Aubrey. October started the car again and drove off heading in the direction of their meeting place.

“I knew that address was somewhere off of Major. Let’s go get this hoe.”

“I swear this hoe about to make me kill her ass. Did you hear what she said about my child? This bitch bout to die for real.”

Azylae was so upset that she couldn’t seem to contain herself. She let her window down all the way and kept hitting the dashboard as she spoke. When she spoke, she spoke with venom in her words and fire in her eyes. October knew how it felt to be this mad and needed to have an outlet so she smashed her gas pedal to the floor of the car, in more of a hurry now than before. Once they pulled into the Market Basket parking lot, Azylae saw Aubrey clowning around with her friends outside her car. Being the attention craver that Aubrey was, she would not be being herself if she was not dancing around and wanting badly to be seen.

“There she is,” Azylae said and pointed.

Once October also spotted her, she pulled up close enough to the car for them to see them but not too close, and parked. They both stepped out of the car and got straight to business.

“Here she is ya’ll! Here’s the young hoe who is trynna take Kent away from me. She trynna trap him with a baby but that shit ain’t gone work with him. He know where it’s good at. I’m here to let you know, he’s mine bitch and I will have him living with me soon.”

As soon as Aubrey saw that it was Azylae getting out of the car, she started to bump her gums and get loud, looking ignorant. Too bad she didn’t know that Azylae was through with all the talking and had not come for that. Azylae continued to walk up on her and as soon as she got within arm’s reach, she reached up and busted her real good in her mouth. Azylae put so much force into that first lick that Aubrey quickly shut her trap and immediately stumbled backwards trying to catch her balance. The blood started flowing from her mouth like a sewage drain and she started choking on what October assumed was a chipped tooth. Azylae did not stop swinging. Aubrey was the same height as October so she towered over Azylae’s short frame, but the height difference was no problem for Azylae. She continued to aim for Aubrey’s face making the perfect landing every single time. Aubrey finally started trying to fight back by grabbing Azylae’s hair and pulling it while trying to swing back.
