CHAPTER FIFTEEN

As she slid down, grasping at the strands of grass poking out of the ground, she realized they were super sharp. Her fingers were bleeding. She waited until her attacked got close enough before she directed a clump of grass strands at him pricking him in the face. She had hoped to get him in the eyes. But she was out of luck. She had only made him mad. She took another shot, this time tossing sand into his face and that time she was a success. She temporarily blinded him.  She tried to run away but she was disoriented and the terrain was rockier than she thought. She stumbled.

The Marauder had her again. This time he punched her on the back of the thighs as he dragged her. He ripped her clothes. He pressed her deep into the sand, which was scratching and chafing her. The Marauder flung apart her thighs, causing her muscles to pull. The pain was excruciating.  Just as he was about to enter her, he was kicked aside. Laura curled up in a ball to conceal herself as a shadowy figure beat her would-be rapist to a pulp. She rolled down a little hill away from the scene and saw from the corner of her eyes. Lucas. Lucas was fending off the man who would hurt her. He was fighting for her against a fellow gang member.

Laura struggled to her feet, pulling together the shreds of her garments. Will ran to them as fast as she had ever seen anyone run. Though Lucas was getting the better of the Marauder, the opponent was able to find a weapon on Lucas and lift it from him. A knife. The Marauder popped the switchblade and began to laugh.

“I don’t care how many of them there are. I throw this and my target is dead. Who will it be? You, Luke?” he looked at Lucas. “They find out you turned on me, you will be begging for death.”

The thud of Knights’ Disciples charging them on the beach distracted the attacker. Lucas swept his feet out from under him and the knife flipped up and stabbed the Marauder. He was not dead immediately. The knife released a fountain of blood. The downed man screamed with pain. For the second time that night, police sirens filled the air. In the distance around the tavern, lights swirled on top of Paddy Wagons as Marauders were being loaded up to be taken away. Laura would later learn that only the gang members were arrested as the owner of the bar said that the Knights’ Disciples were defending the place. A few ambulances were dispatched to pick up the wounded. Will took off his vest and slipped it on Lucas so that when the three of them made their way to Big John’s, Lucas wouldn’t be arrested.

When the cops pulled out and Lucas was still standing, he started to say thanks, but Will cut him off. “Take off that vest,” he said angrily.  Laura had never heard him talk that way before.  “I am not exactly sure what I am going to do with you. Don’t feel like I spared you for any other reason than so they wouldn’t kill you. I did it for your sister,” he railed.

“I understand,” said Lucas.

Laura sobbed softly, still clutching her clothing as the Knights’ Disciples patted her brother down. They pulled even more weapons from him. One of the Knights’ Disciples was carrying handcuffs and braced Lucas’s hands together. They crowded around him so it wouldn’t be obvious that they were escorting a handcuffed man back to their house. The owner of Big John’s, Big John – a former professional football player, worked with Will as they both helped Laura into the bar to the manager’s quarters. The place had actual rooms above the bar and they took her there so Will could have a better look at her. The owner left them in private and said he would keep watch if any more mayhem was about. Laura could hear the hum of bikes fill air.  Affiliate clubs had already received word and were there on duty to protect against any more gang activity. They were safe for now.

Though the colonial-aged tavern was modernized, the light seemed thin and weak. Laura was half in and out of reality as Will traced his fingers over her body. He made her follow his finger with her eye. He checked her pupils. “Did you jostle your head at all? I see the mark on the back of your body. How about your face or head? Did he hit you?”

“No I don’t think so,” she said flatly. She couldn’t manage to care about anything, but she was aware that some part of her was glad he was there. She said something. She could hear herself speak but she felt no connection to her words. “Is Lucas okay?”

Will shook his head. “You are a mother cub through and through. He is fine and he is safe.”

“He saved my life,” she said. “In the end, he saved me.”

Will was very grave. “Yes he did, Laura.”

The next few days, a wicked storm blew into Charleston. There were warnings for people to move inland but Will thought they were fine and the Knights’ Disciples thought the storm would make them safer now that the Marauders knew where they were and were probably looking to come get them. For now, their Baltimore homes were safe and they would be safest where they were.

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Laura was scraped from her head to toe with sand rash. It was uncomfortable but Will had a remedy for it. He had her lay naked on a soft suede blanket atop the feather mattress. After he disinfected all the spots that were rubbed raw, he rubbed her down with a massage oil that had an analgesic quality. He was able to take the pain away instantly. He pressed into her muscles deeply, releasing all of the stress and emotional pain, at least for the moment. His kneading stirred the flow of energy throughout her body and knocked her into a dream-like realm. She drifted as his work detoxed her body. She may have been sobbing – she didn’t know.  As the storm raged around their seaside dwelling, Laura was purged. It felt amazing. He heightened her massage, mixing it up with varying techniques and she continued to transition. She went from zombie-like and feeling nothing to feeling healed. Will Shriner might have been the smartest, most talented person she knew.

Laura rose up off the mattress after resting a moment. Will got up to fix them iced tea. He looked awfully tired, but she felt positively renewed. She accepted the tea from him with thanks, completely without thought to the fact that she was oiled and completely naked. Her only focus was on him. “Your turn,” she said and began to slip off his clothing. Will accepted.

He sprawled face down on the mattress, limp with exhaustion. His magnificent back muscles were so firm and chiseled. He was a work of art as far as Laura could see. She realized that it was always about her or her little brother.  She had not paid him enough attention or even compliments. “You are so wonderful, if I have never told you that,” she said softly. She kissed his back with the lightest kisses but continued to work as he had, mimicking his moves. She pressed all of her body weight into giving him deep massage. She took charge, applying herself to all of his body, kneading every inch of his magnificent form. She rolled her fists on his hamstrings, down his calves.  She tried her hand as reflexology and meant to tend to his feet but he jerked up with a ticklish reaction.

“Hey!” he said.

“Oh,” she said regretting her choice. “I undid it all.”  She affected an extra sensual voice. “I guess I will have to start all over again.” She got up and walked to the side of the bed. She rolled Will over on his back. He was watching her but she drew her fingers lightly over his face and closed his eyes.  She began to work his head, massaging his scalp, his face. She pressed on the ridiculous hardness of his shoulders. She worked his neck and down, kneading his pec muscles. Then she got daring and pinched up his nipple and licked just like he would her. She did it just briefly because she didn’t get the sense that he liked it as much as she did when she was the recipient. A vivid spasm of lightening flashed the room and knocked out the lights.

Will broke his position to take some real candles and some battery operated ones from a side cupboard. The room was romantically lit in no time.

Laura, oiled up and still naked, stalked Will as he lay back on the bed. He was sprawled, waiting to be devoured. She liked how the candlelight played on the shine of her oiled body, jeweling it with shimmers. She climbed the foot of the bed with one knee, then the other and traveled with controlled movement until she was straddling him. Though she was going to take him, he had the look of a predator. His beautiful features were intent and sexual as she maneuvered over his hips and impaled herself on him. She and Will had lots of sex and all of it amazing, but the feeling of him inside of her was so wondrous. She took a moment to savor him. With him inside, she lowered herself to him, directing his massive arms above his head, while dangerously teasing him. There was a hint of a smile on his face. There was definitely a gleam in his eye as he was now fully awake and enjoying watching her.

It took incredible strength, but she reached between them to brace his cock while her other arm steadied her upper body so she could work her hips up and down on him. She closed her eyes and focused. She allowed her energy to concentrate at the entrance of her body as she excited him with the feel of her breasts pushing into him. She raised slightly so he could get an eyeful of her breasts pressing against him, just exposed enough as though from a low cut T-shirt. She could not hold out like this much longer. She sat up, rocked back and forth ever so slowly with him completely and fully inside of her while she pivoted around to turn her back to him. Her legs were bowed like a frog as she reached between them both and pressed her buttocks up and down on him. She intermittently worked from front to back as well as up and down, making sure to touch herself to sporadically encourage her own pleasure.

Will stroked her backside, dipping his finger in the crevices of her body as she rode him. He drew the oil off her skin, lubricating his finger to put it in a forbidden place. Laura reeled. It was such an amazing sensation and it gave her thrusting power. Her channel was electrified so that every part of her that made contact with him was that much more sensitive. She rode him with a hungry fury, trying to get to the peak of her orgasm. Will would not let her alone, sweetly tormenting her, pushing her toward the ultimate pleasure.

He was getting as good as he gave and she could tell they were both on that path. She stayed her course, taking from him that wicked stimulation that caused her body and brain to be positively primitive. She bucked on him because she had to. She was driven to. And there it was. Her orgasm broke in pleasured waves, washing endlessly over her. Her whole body drew up and spasmed on him. A huge clap of thunder rocked the house as he moaned and shivered, collapsing in his own climax. His legs gave little kicks as Laura tried to keep moving until their moment passed. And when it did, they both tipped sideways to spoon on the bed. Lightning flickered in the room. They stroked each other, humming from the powerful experience.

Finally, she rolled over to face him. She looked at him intently. “There are no words for all that you’ve done for my family and for me,” she said.

“We aren’t out of the woods, baby. I kept Lucas from getting arrested now, but he probably wasn’t supposed to cross state lines. And if he was out on bail, there is someone back in Baltimore that is seething now. We have to see what’s what with the D.A. and with Detective Vasquez.”

“I realize all that. I am sorry I forgot how amazing you were in the bar and I started that stuff,” she said.

He grinned from ear to ear. “You were asking for it.”

“I was jealous. I’m not very mature; I admit it,” she said. “I haven’t had much practice being in relationships. I can’t imagine why a man like you wouldn’t have a thousand girls hanging off of him.”

“Well I do have some say in the matter, Miss Mills. In case you hadn’t noticed, I do like having my own way. And if that were my way, that would be the case. But that’s not what I want. I want you. I know you didn’t like it when I said it before, but in answer to your question, yes I do love to fuck you. But I also love to make love to you. I love to wake up next to you. I love you on the back of my bike. I love you when you need me and when I need you right back.”

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

The plan was that the Knights’ Disciples would deliver Lucas back to Baltimore after alerting Detective Frank Vasquez. A safe house in which Lucas could live under heavy security was arranged for. They would go, but Laura and Will were going to stay behind for a few days.

The storms cleared and left behind perfect weather once again. Laura had been avoiding her brother since the night at Big John's but eventually she sought him out. He didn't seem to have any problem living under the same roof as her, though he had, at one time, cursed and abandoned her. He had no problem taking food and shelter from the people who came into their lives to protect them. His appetite had not waned nor had his sleep suffered. Laura and Will had their relationship tested and they had to nurse each other back to normal.  But her younger brother seemed to emerge from the drama of his life as a gang member just fine.

Lucas sat on the screened in porch. The morning was cold. Charleston was chilled from the winter storm that had passed through. The two-way fireplace was lit so it warmed both the house and the porch. As Laura approached him, she was once again struck by his size. Their father had been of slightly above average height. He had not been as tall as Lucas was. He had never been a fit man, or so Laura remembered. Lucas was a powerhouse. His arms looked like knots of iron. He was reading a magazine. He looked at her casually. "Hi," he said. He wouldn't even give her his full attention.

She said, "You are either a coward or you are totally heartless."

He rolled his eyes. "How is that?"

"You're hiding from me behind that magazine or you find it more interesting," she said.

"It could be a little of both," he replied and set the magazine aside. "I can say something like I am sorry, which I know I am. Somewhere. But I don't have feelings anymore. I have seen things and been places in a few square blocks that no one should ever see," he said.

Laura was wrenched at the thought of what those things could be. She had a lot of hard feelings for her brother. She adored the little kid he used to be and even the sweet adolescent, but he was so transformed; it was difficult to relate to this new Lucas who went from a skinny boy to a hardened bull overnight.

"I can't make up for all the worry and grief and fear I made you endure. If I got to prison, so be it. I am willing to pay my debt to society if it means I can walk away from the gang." He started to sob. "I wish I could go back in time and just tell you what I was feeling instead of seeking out those guys." He wiped his tears. "We never talked about our parents. It was just you and me all the time."

Laura was horrified. Lucas was finally opening up and what he was saying was that he wanted someone to talk to and she wasn't available. It was sort of what Will said about her. In situations where she felt vulnerable, she never discussed her feelings. Lucas was right. They never talked about the fact that their parents were killed in a tragic accident and they went from a family of four to a family where she was once his sister and now his mother figure, and he was an only child. Laura wiped her eyes. Now she felt more selfish than ever, making that decision to indulge her personal desires when she thought she had lost her brother to a gang. She was so confused.  All the decisions she thought were the absolute best for Lucas were for nothing. None of those things kept him safe. The one thing she overlooked in their relationship, that Will pointed out was overlooked in
their
relationship, was the feelings. She had driven him into the arms of gangs because he wanted to feel included, not excluded.

Laura thought she might throw up.  Lucas insisted he wasn't telling her these to make her feel bad, but he was saying things like if he should die without ever saying them, he wouldn't rest.  The very real possibility that he could die at any time, and because of murder, weighed on her – all because she couldn't talk about her feelings. That poor little kid.

Will walked in the room, clapping his hands slowly. "Oh man, that was beautiful." Lucas looked at him like he would kill Will. "You are really good man. You have this woman thinking she was the lousiest parent on the planet."

"She’s not my parent," Lucas glared.

"You catching this Laura? Look at that face. He is pissed at you for what has become of him," Will pointed out. "You forget, Mr. Mills. I was a police detective for many years. And by the way, she is your parent. And she was a kid herself and she sacrificed all the things that young women her age get to experience so that you could have the best of the situation."

Lucas flew into a rage. "I am so sick of hearing about what Laura lost! What about me?"  he cried. "Jesus, what about me?"

Laura looked at Lucas and looked at Will. Her first instinct was to side against Will and protect Lucas, but Lucas had lied to her so many times before and it was just a few days ago that he brought men to kill all of the Knights’ Disciples. She swallowed hard and did her best to be neutral. "I am sorry, Lucas, I didn't do right by you. It's still going to take some time to sort all of this out. Let's take it one step at a time."
