He stared down at the world below from his place among the heavens, contemplating everything that had occurred leading up to His violating the accord between the gods.

He underestimated the resolve of the Dragon Lord, that much was obvious.
The mortal was far more tenacious than expected, refusing to give up his pursuit, even in the face of overwhelming odds.

He also
erred when trusting the elder spirits when it came to obtaining the child. They were clearly unprepared to deal with such a mortal, whose every footstep caused tremors that could be felt throughout the universe .

"Was it worth it?" Estheryal's voice reached
his ears as a whisper. "Was it truly worth breaking the accord?" Her voice was gentle, but had a slight hardness in her tone that proclaimed louder than words that she was angry. "After everything that you have done to accomplish your plan, and being so close to having them realized, only to be thwarted by a mere mortal. Was it worth violating the accord? Was it worth plunging the world into chaos once more, only to fail in your plans?"

"Fail?" He murmured quietly. "What makes you think I failed?" He slowly raised his claw and stared at the single drop of blood that he had collected from the cut on the child's neck. "No,
dear one, I did not fail. I was able to obtain what I was after, and it was worth the price that was paid. It matters not if the other gods decide to return to the world now that the pact has been broken. Our children will continue to endure, and in the end, they shall rise up and reclaim what once belonged to them."

He gazed back down at the world below, eager to execute the next step in
his plan.
