Chapter 15

The crew spent the next two days at the Palms Resort: gambling in the casino, attending the different shows and performances, dining, and actually spending enough time in the suite to say that they were able to enjoy it. This was the highlight of their lives; they couldn’t possibly think of anything to ruin this trip and bring them down from the high that they received from it.

The whole crew was downstairs in the casino taking turns being down on their cash. Pit had disappeared a few hours earlier and Kale was starting to wonder where he had gone to. When he left he was acting in a way that halfway had her confused and halfway made her worry. Pit was not usually the type to be nervous, but for some reason he was acting as if something made him nervous before he left. Because he had been acting weird and had been gone for so long she was starting to get a bit scared and nervous herself. Kale decided that she should take off to go look for him. She would just die if something was to happen to him and he would just die if he was somewhere being no good, because she would kill him. With that in mind, she really started to worry; she headed toward the elevators to check in the room.

It wasn’t like Pit to just disappear and not let her know anything. He would have usually called or texted her to let her know something. The palms of her hands started sweating while the rest of her hands began to shake. No matter how hard she tried blocking the thought of infidelity out of her mind, it just kept making its way back in there. Until now she had no reason to question his actions; in the past, he never gave her reasons to. Well, that is, after that one incident that happened with his ex-girlfriend six years ago when they first started dating. But Kale had given her a beat down that caused her to pack up and move away a month later, leaving Pit alone for good. They both never saw or heard from her again. Kale also left Pit alone. For a whole month she wouldn’t talk to him or accept any of his phone calls. She only took him back when she realized she couldn’t be happy without him. He begged and pleaded for her forgiveness the whole time and when she finally felt like his apologies were sincere and that he had suffered enough, her as well, she took him back. The breakup had changed him for the better. His character was better and he never made her doubt or regret her decision after that. She had just reached the elevators and pushed the up button; when she brought her hand back down to her side she felt someone slip their hand into it. Surrendering her battle with her tear ducts, she allowed her tears to flow freely when she felt it. She didn’t have to turn around to know whose hand it was; she had felt it in hers over a million times. Kale knew that this person knew that something was bothering her and was relieved when she felt their hand.

“Big sis, can you help me look for Pit?”

              “What’s wrong?!”

The doors to the elevator opened and they stepped inside. Kale pressed the button to the floor in which their suite was on. “He told me that he was leaving to do something, well ‘to take care of some business real quick’ but that was six hours ago.”

              “Six hours!?”

“Yes and he hasn’t called or texted me,” Kale said all of this in one breath and started crying harder and uncontrollably.

Sanayah tried her best to wipe her sister’s tears away.

“Slow down sis. Six hours is a long time, but Pit hasn’t been acting in a way to make him seem guilty of something has he? You never know he might be setting up another surprise up for us. Today is our birthday Kale, your birthday. You think he is so cold-hearted as to ruin this day for you, especially after putting all of this together?”

“No, but--"

Just then the elevator dinged and stopped. As soon as the door opened they ran into the room and searched its entirety. No Pit in sight. They both headed out and started to search the halls. Kale’s mind then switched over to fear that Pit might be hurt or worse.

They got to the 15th floor when Sanayah asked, “Have you tried calling him?”

“The last time I spoke with him he rushed me off of the phone. That was three hours ago and when I tried calling every time after that it would go straight to voicemail.”

“His phone must have gone dead. Don’t worry sis, everything should be fine.”

Kale stopped in her tracks which caused Sanayah to also stop.

Sanayah searched Kale’s face and asked, “What is it?”

Kale spoke softly, “It’s just this feeling that I have that something is about to go wrong, I’ve been having it since last night.”

Sanayah dropped her front and said, “Same thing here, that’s how I knew you were worried.”

“All I could think of was you and my little niece or nephew up until a few hours ago, now it’s making me think of Pit. San, I sure could not handle a repeat of what happened six years ago. You know I’ve been so happy for so long, things were even starting to get better and I didn’t think better was possible.”

Just then Kale heard voices and footsteps coming toward her from the door that she and Sanayah were standing in front of.

“Shhh, listen.” Kale whispered.

When Sanayah also heard it, they ran and hid around the corner in the hallway where the ice machine was located. Luckily, it was just a few steps away. The door of the room opened and the voices became louder and clearer. The voices were quite familiar to both Kale and Sanayah and when they stepped from their hiding spots they couldn’t believe their eyes. In front of them were two familiar male bodies hugging and kissing each other goodbye in the hallway.

Sanayah, after witnessing what she had in that hallway, almost passed out from shock and embarrassment. What the hell is going on, she thought. So many other thoughts fluttered through her mind, but she could not quite get all of it right. Her mind was one giant puzzle, yet the pieces were scattered, destroyed, and misplaced. What the hell does he think he is doing? Why is he even here? Why is he with him? They hurriedly dodged back into the small hallway in which they were hiding at first to avoid being seen.

Contemplating their next move, they stood there waiting. The sisters stared at each other for the longest, studying each other’s eyes and faces for the answer to the question, “What to do next?” Without any words being said, they both decided that they would keep quiet for right now and give themselves some time to think about how they would deal with this situation. And what a situation it was! They waited for five minutes after they heard the elevator doors close before peeping out to see if the hall was empty. When they noticed that the coast was clear they ran straight for the elevators and went back up to the room to talk.

As soon as they got inside, Sanayah started to pace the room back and forth taking turns cursing herself and everyone else and praying that her and her baby would be okay. At first, Kale was quite confused; she didn’t understand why her sister would take this so hard. It wasn’t like it was her man that they had just caught kissing another man. Unless…..Oh! It took Kale a minute to realize what was going on and once she locked eyes with Sanayah’s, her realization was confirmed. Kale rushed over toward her sister in just as much tears as her now fragile sister.

“Oh San, I am so sorry. Are you okay? What am I thinking, of course you are not okay. I didn’t even recognize that the guy in the hallway was Samuel. Oh no, and it is all my fault. I’m sorry. I should have never asked you to help me look for Pit. I-I-I just was afraid that something was wrong. Never in a million years would I have thought that this was going on and that we would witness it. I am sooooo sorry!”

Sanayah broke down crying louder and harder while Kale held Sanayah in her arms.

Just then October and Pit walked into the room with confused looks on their faces. The confusion was quickly replaced with worry as soon as they noticed that the twins were upset. Pit ran over to Kale to find out what was wrong. She was so elated to find out that he was physically okay, but she gave him a look that warned him that he had some explaining to do. He reached for her to talk to and console her, but she refused to let her sister go. Sanayah was in a lot of pain and Kale wanted to be there for her. October went over and wrapped her arms around them both without speaking at all. After a few minutes, Sanayah got quiet. They embraced each other silently while Pit stayed close and observed.

“Let’s bring her over this way so that she can have a seat. As a matter of fact, I know she would prefer to lay down and rest for a while so let’s bring her into the room and lay her down in the bed,” Kale stated, breaking the silence.

Then, and only then, did Pit and October realize that Sanayah was the one in pain of some sort and it was Kale who was consoling her. The only reason why they were both crying was because Kale was feeling the pain of her sister. Once Sanayah laid down in the bed, she nodded toward her sister and Kale understood. She whispered over to October and told her to lie down with Sanayah. She knew that whenever Sanayah felt like she was up to it, she would want to tell October what was going on with her. Kale wanted to see what was going on with her man first, then she would go in and join her sister and their best friend. Kale closed and locked the bedroom door as her and Pit took their exit out.

Making their way over to the couch to sit, Pit asked, “Baby, what’s going on?”

Kale studied his face for guilt or infidelity. She also searched inside herself to see if the feeling she was feeling earlier was still there.

“Don’t baby me. You been gone all day without calling me and letting me know what was going on with you. I’ve been worried and stressed and honestly, not too sure if I am still your baby or not.”

“What?! Girl, what are you talking bout? Why you trippin like that? What do you think I was out there doing?”

Kale looked Pit in his eyes, searching for the truth before she asked him for it. Lord knows she did not want what was swimming around in her brain to be true.

“You know what I’m thinking and why I’m trippin. I haven’t heard form you all day. When I do call you, you’re talking all low and funny and then you rush me off the phone so quick. You practically hung up in my face! I mean, what do you expect me to think? It is not like it is impossible for you to mess around. Look around, we are in Vegas. This place is filled with opportunities. I don’t know what else to think, I see you are fine physically, but I haven’t heard anything from you. You had me worried for a while, but then I started to get pissed off.”

Pit was so upset that Kale was flying off the handle and acting like she couldn’t and didn’t trust him. He wanted to yell back at her, but that wasn’t his style so instead he tried to take the calm approach. He was gone for a while and he did expect her to be at least worried. He wanted her to know that when he was out and away the whole time that it was for her. He had something beautiful planned for her and he needed her to be calm when he presented it to her, but he also wanted to set her straight first.

“Look, I understand how me being gone for so long could upset you, but all that thinking I am out being with someone else is ridiculous. You need to chill out with all that. That thought never crosses my mind and you need to always know and remember that I love you and only you, Kale Weber. I’m out here trynna make sure that you have the best birthday ever not at all thinking of anybody else but you. I only included your friends because I knew that would make you happiest, but my main and only focus has always been you and you need to realize that. The only reason why I was gone for so long was because I was wanting to do something extra special for you. There was a certain place I had to go to get your surprise and it took me awhile to get there because my driver got lost. On the way there, when you called, I rushed you off the phone on purpose because I didn’t want you to hear anything and the surprise be ruined. My phone was out of service for a while then it went dead because I was on it so much trynna get directions and talk with the people. Then we got stuck in traffic on our way back. I am so sorry that I had you worried and stressed out, but I don’t appreciate you accusing me of things that you should already know I won’t do again. Just knowing that you were thinking that lets me know that you don’t trust me.”

Just then Pit’s phone rung and he hopped up from off the couch and walked away from Kale before she could take her chance at responding, making it totally obvious to Kale that he was hiding something. He said hello and listened to whatever the caller was telling him, giving them his full attention before responding. Even then, all he said was, “Okay.” At that moment, when he hung up and looked over at Kale’s face he realized just how suspicious he was acting. The look on Kale’s face showed her hurt and disappointment and Pit almost felt sorry for her. But then he remembered that in less than ten, twenty minutes tops, he would be able to give her her surprise and it would explain everything to her. A smile almost crept across his face, but he had to quickly wipe away the feeling.

He gave her an apologetic look and said, “I’m sorry baby, I must go. Give me five minutes and go downstairs into the lobby and they will give you a room key and tell you which room to report to. After that, I will explain everything to you.”

He already had his hand on the doorknob to leave when he ran back over to his woman who still sat on the couch near tears with her arms crossed and her mind racing. He gave her a quick peck on the cheek and ran out of the door so fast that Kale was even more confused. She was anxious to know what was going on and wanted to go straight down to the lobby and find out what was going on, but she wanted to check on her sister first to make sure that she was okay.
